WASH IT MINE is a washing ritual that cleans away unwanted elements to take possession using subtraction as the composition.
WASH IT MINE views wash as a process where people try to take control by washing away alien elements, which mostly considered as dirt, from someone or something and thereby to declare the ownership. We wash to make it mine. It is a physical behavior however cleaning not only physically but also spiritually. It happens all the time, in daily life and ritualistic actions, collectively and individually.
The performance is composed of 3 chapters. The first two chapters start with different messy “noises”, both containing three voices with various fast beats, one of which is artist’s own voice saying “Mine”. As the controller washes the guest performer and then an audience by the main instrument, a customized long white fabric, the beats gradually slow down and voices except the sound “Mine” eventually get washed away based on how hard the fabric is being stretched. Then in the last chapter, the controller herself is washed and frequencies of “Mine” are filtered out from high to low. Performance ends when all the frequencies are cleaned away.
The 5min sound performance occurred on Dec 3, 2017 at Littlefield, Brooklyn which is also a part of ITP(Interactive Telecommunication Program) NIME(New Interface of Musical Expression) 2017 group show.
